Nothing improves appreciation quite like absence.
The first year without familiar material may produce little reaction.
The second, curiosity.
The third, questions.
Where is it going?
Who is buying?
What are they paying?
Can we access it?
By year five, an empty tray has become a surprisingly articulate economist.
It says:
supply moved.
The market changed.
Relationships changed.
The old assumptions no longer clear inventory.
The irony is exquisite.
The gate once existed to control access to the market.
Eventually the people standing beside it realise the material is on another continent.
At this point the gate remains beautifully maintained.
Possibly heritage listed.
No stones.
